Say goodbye to one of our beloveds!

Today I sit down for lunch in Franklin and grab some local newspaper that someone had left at the table. I start to thumb threw the Hillbilly Gazette and I see an article about NC28. Just a few paragraphs in I find myself in utter shock and disbelief. It seems NC DOT has decided NC 28 near the Bryson City is just too dangerous a road as it stands now so they have a trillion dollars earmarked for major retooling of our little gem to "take out most of the roads tight twisty blind corners". To basically make the road far less intimidating for the cagers who frequent it.
Works gonna be done is two stages with the first stage "A" starting early next year! Let me be the first say RIP ole NC 28!:eek :( :rant :mad
Whats next? Transforming US 129 into a 4 lane super highway toll road? Yall better hit 28 sooner versus later as she aint gonna be round much longer on the Bryson City side.

Bryson City side? :confused That doesn't make much sense, since B/C is NE of 28 & not really on one 'side' or the other. You mean the north stretch between 129 & 74, or the south stretch between 74 & Franklin which passes Bridal Veil Falls (my guess is it's that one, where it winds along the side of the mountain).

The thing that pisses me off is your pay your tax dollars to build such a great road, then pay more tax dollars to do completely useless work that only may benefit those rich Hummer-driving Jackasses (Jersey Mike not included of course) that could afford to privately fund that kind of thing if they are really having "issues" with it. I'm sure if it was a referrendum on a ballot there's friggin nobody that would vote yes to spend public funds to straighten a friggin road..... Now, if that meant keeping the road twisty and just removing all the cliffs so as to see around them... now we're talkin.

Kerry it seems to be 28 between Franklin and 74 near Bryson City which as you know is a very sweet section of road as it sits now!;)

If its the section south of 74 that really sucks . they have already made sections north of 74 4 and 5 lanes.
