Ok here goes.
My 12 year old daughter and I left the house at 6:50 this morning headed for Kay's Motorcycle Mania in Nollanville. Was a bit chilly but she said she aint no tutu rider so she just put an extra layer on.
Arrived at Kay's at about 7:30 and were welcomed by several riders bearing gifts in the form of Hot Coffee and Doughnuts. There were several other offers of warmer clothing for my daughter to which she thankfully declined. Them SCRC folks are mighty friendly people.
Had a small safety brief then it was off to Belton to pick up some more riders. All told we showed up with 136 riders I believe.
Headed from there to Temple VFW center and more hot coffee and doughnuts and breakfast taco's.
Lots of different clubs there and they all dug deap into their pockets.
We stayed there for a few hours before the official ride started, there were silent auctions, spoken auctions a 50/50 pot and various clubs trying to one-up each other with how much money their members on site could come up with to donate.
SCRC started it off with $300 and it went from there. There is an establishment in Copperas Cove that blew everyone else out of the water with a check with an amount North of $11,000 and they said it would be bigger next year!
It was great to see so many people come together for the kids.
My daughter even ran into a friend of hers from school so she had someone to hang out with, also she busted her youth ministry teacher skipping church as well!
We all headed out for the ride at noon, stopped in Cove for a break and then took it in to Lampassas. Throughout the entire route there were people on the sides of the highway waving and taking pictures, also saw tons of Amercan flags being waved, my daughter was having a blast waving back to everyone. There was one little girl just past Kempner that must have jumped up and down 1,000 times before we all passed.
:laughing
All in all it was a good day, we got home around 4:00 and my daughter is passed out on the couch as I type this. I'm sure that I'm gonna sleep good tonight as well.
I saw a few old friends that I haven't seen in a while, also saw Vincent (kawboy) but didn't get the opportunity to get to where he was to say hi. Jose (the tire man) his wife and daughter were there as well.
That's pretty much my day in a nut-shell.

Forgot to mention...they stopped counting at 1200 bikes in the parking lot. Me thinks it ended up being close to 2000 by the time we left for the ride.

True Marc, there was pretty good turnout for the sportbikers. Also when the different clubs were uping the ante S.W.A.T. donated $100. Not bad for an 8 member club!
Was pretty impressive.

Also forgot to mention, when we were preparing to leave Kay's this morning...one of the riders had a tape of a song that was written by a 12 year old girl that is a patient at St. Judes, it was written for the Southern Cruisers and sung by an adult female whose name I don't know. He played it for us before we headed out.

You need to use Windows Explorer to do it but if you go to www.chisolmtrails.org/ you can hear the song. It was a touching beginning to the ride to say the least.
