TLS Fuel Issues

Hey Guys..

I have a question for everyone. A buddy of mine sent me a question, I think he's being scammed by a shop.

Here's the Info.

98 TLS

Had the Starter replaced, then Dyno'd and found he lost power. Dyno shows a lose of power at about 7,000 RPM.

The Shop tells him it's the Fuel Petcock (now correct me if I'm wrong but TLS's do not have Fuel petcocks). Then they say it could be the fuel filter.

Now I imagine if there is a fuel sending issue, it'll show an extreme lean condition that any reasonable mechanic can diagnose without a Dyno. The 'petcock' is suspect, how can it be the issue if it doesn't exist. I'd also suspect a loss of power through the entire Rev range, albeit more apparent in the top end.

If, for some reason, it is a fuel issue, do the TLS's have any common fuel issues? ie: the Fuel Pump?

Any help is appreciated guys. Thanks!

Jim.

Only TL Recalls I'm aware of are:
1997: Addition of steering damper
1997: ECU swap on some VIN#s.
1997-1998: Gas tank leak.

No FI problems, excepting maybe that small range of bad ECU's in '97 that I'm not sure what they were recalled for...

Just FYI, there is a petcock, it's vaccum actuated and the "filter" is actually a screen in the tank. Remove the "petcock" assembly/fuel pump to get to it.

It does sound like a resonable place to start IMO....whenever there's a fuel issue it's easier to start at the source (tank) and work your way back (carbs/injectors)
