Transmission Trouble???

My transmission has been acting funny lately. It has not been shifting well. When I put it into neutral it makes a funny whirring noise, then when I shift into 1st it shifts really hard making a loud clunking sound. Sometimes it doesn't want to go from 1st to 2nd and I have to let the clutch out a little then shift again. When it does this it hits 2nd really hard with another loud clunk. You all have any ideas??

Yeah it's been down once lightely, but I'm not sure how that would effect the transmission. Unless it messed up the shift mechanism, which received no damage. I removed the cover over the shift mechanism to check for proper operation and everything looked fine. It almost seem like the transmission isn't disengaging when it's in neutral, because when I pull in the clutch the whirring noise stops. I don't know much about motorcycle transmissions so any help would be appreciated.

OK, here's a thought you all let me know if this makes sense. Perhaps I put too much pressure on the shift lever and one of the shift forks or maybe the shift fork guide bar got slightly bent. Now it's having trouble engaging the gears and disengaging to neutral. Any one have a similar experience? I'd like to get as much input as I can before I pull apart my transmission :(

Sorry, but it sounds like the cases need to be split to fix this.:( Liek you said, it does sound like the shift forks got tweaked enough. Did this all start after you laid it down or has it been on going? Also do you wheelie the bike? Do alot of clutchless shifting? ANy other info?

Yep, happened after I layed it down. It went down on the left side and bent the shift lever pretty good, so I guess that could have put enough pressure on the shift forks to bend them. Hmmm.....Sounds like a fun winter project :redflip

No, I don't do cluchless shifting, and I don't wheelie much. What were your thoughts about it?

Well doing clutchless shifting wrong will mess your tranny up. Wheelies put alot of stress on tranny parts especially if you clutch them up.
