out of gas...

well...today i rode my bike to school for the first time, got bike last week and was pretty cool. but on the way home after school, i ran out of gas! i tried taking off from a light i was at and well, it stopped in the middle of intersection, i flipped switch to reserve (or so i thought, i actually turned the gas off) so i tried flipping it the other way to reserve but it wouldnt start. i pushed my bike to the gas station, there was one at the light luckily. and filled up, but basically i learned that the reserve switch is forward and off is backwards, so if this happens again i push other way lol...guess sometimes ya have to learn the hard way.

but why isnt there a gas indicator of how low you are...or even a light that says when u are low on gas...i looked in the tank, but this is my first bike and wasnt sure if it was very clsoe to empty or not. oh ewll, atleast i know now haha.

When you start sputtering that's your gas light. I don't have a reserve on my bike but I do have a light. Best way to see if you got gas is to move it side to side with the tank flap open and see if you hear gas swooshing around.

I always just fill up every time im near a gas station if I have the time...I usually always have a full tank so that kinda thing wont happen. :D

I have an auto resv. of 1/2 gal. and thats when my light comes on. I never push it though I just fill up near gas stations too.

Just another reason why you should have a passenger (pusher).

But knowing where and which dircetion to turn that thing is a must... On my ZX7, I had to swap to reserve more than a couple times while at full tilit on the freeway. Talk about a scary feeling... cruisin along at 80+, then the truck in your rear view mirror is getting closer, and the throttle does nothing (all the while in the fast lane)... Thank goodness I knew where my reserve knbo was ;)

Oh.. and my preent bike does not have a reserve/on/off dial, It's fuel injected, and has a "low fuel light" that gives me about 15 miles to get gas.

You still got the 7 Frijol? I remember when you wrecked it. Wasn't it on Central on your way home from work?

Push your bike uphill a couple times after running out of gas, you'll learn to remember to fill up more often. :D

I think it's hard to keep from running out of gas with a new bike, cause you're having so much fun riding you don't realize how far you've ridden.

yea lol...im gonna figure out about how many miles i can get with this tank then just start fillin up before i get there :) hopefully this doesnt happen again...

lol... nope, the 7 is toast.

Ran it head on into a rock on the way TO work on southern (just south of central)
