Tank Bag Review: Icon Urban Tank Bag
I got this bag last week. When I first used it, I was SERIOUSLY disappointed with the strength of the magnets. On Saturday was messing around with it when I discovered that they had put the magnets in BACKWARDS. This was no issue since the magnets are in Velcro pockets. When the magnets are facing right way, they produce incredible holding power. The magnets are MUCH smaller (1 inch in diameter) than other tank bags that use about a 2-3 inch squares.
Yesterday, I learned that the bag has a safety strap that secures to your handlebars. Anyway, I loaded up bag with gym clothes, shoes, laptop, pocket pc, ulock, etc. I put the bag on to see how strong the magnets were now that they were positioned correctly. HOLY CRAP!! It is like it had a DEATH GRIP on my tank. I was going about 100 MPH and the bag was sturdy (no fairing on bike so it is hit w/ open wind). Takes me about two seconds to remove off the bike. I leave the safety strap on the bike. The under portion of the bag is this super soft/grip pad that helps reduce scratching. However, I would suggest always wiping your tank before putting it on.
The capacity of the bag is impressive. One of the larger tank bags out there for price range. The best features are the backpack conversion and built in helmet holder. Its super fast to convert to backpack (an surprisingly comfortable) and stick your helmet into the holder (also protects your helmet). This is also a slick feature if you need to carry an extra helmet with you when you are picking someone up (has to be in backpack mode). It also has an mp3/cd player pocket that is right in front of you with a grommet that allows wires to go through.
As you can tell, I am STOKED about this bag. It went from disappointment to exceeding my expectations. Especially for how cheap. RMC in Renton had this bag in stock.
Here is where you can buy one online:
http://www.*****************/details/58-ICON-UTB
They only show MSRP price. They actually will give it to you for around $90 (That includes shipping). They will email you with price.

Man, that thing is huge. Does it collapse at all when it's on the bike?

It looks a lot bigger than it is. It basically just collapses in on itself but does not use an expansion zipper, etc. More expensive bags have those. This is just pretty cheap if you carry the same crap with you to work everyday.

Re: Tank Bag Review: Icon Urban Tank Bag
Chris at Stoppies carries Icon products too!
Thanks for the review! Great information... How much stuff can it hold? If you were to pack clothes in it, about how much could you hold?
Thanks.

Where is Stoppies at?
In terms of clothes, I think it could hold a lot. Here is my SWAG:
3 pairs of pants rolled
1 pair of shoes
1 light coat and two shirts or 4 shirts with no coat
toiletry bag split up between side pockets
CD/MP3 compartment could hold some misc stuff like extra keys, locks, walkie talkie, etc.

Ignore him, Khan. You can post whatever you want in here. If you feel like posting it to the gear forum as well, go ahead, but there's no restriction on what you can and can't post in the NSR forum.

Geezz.....pull your panties out of your ass and read my post. It was a bit tongue-in-cheek.
However as the mod for a section that seemed to be asked for time and again it is my job to find posts such as khanjugal's and see if he would repost it in that section since this IS Cycleforums, ya know a website for all riders, everywhere...not just the NSR forum.

I'd like to see the tankbag up close and personal and on my bike before buying it. From the pictures, it looks like it is way too much for what I want on my tank...but the picture could be deceiving. I bought a backpack at REI last night to carry my gym clothes, laptop, etc. But I want a tank bag for when I dont want to use my backpack and dont have a lot of crap

RMC had some last weekend. Just don't be fooled by small magnets.
