Speeding Tickets
Is it true that if a LEO makes a mistake on a citation that it can be dismissed because of that error?

Well here is an example. I get a ticket. My licence has my name spelled correctly (Kristopher), but the citation has my name spelled wrong (Christopher). Would an attorney be able to get that dismissed?

Not in NC. They would just do a misdemeanor statement of charges in court to amend the error.

I got two tickets thrown out in Georgia because the cop put the wrong court date on the ticket. He wrote on the ticket that I was suppose to go to court on June 31.

Dude, consider that EXTREME luck. Perhaps Illinois is just really crappy.... hmmm yeah that does make sense also. VERY surprised that a ticket would get tossed for ONE letter in the offendor's name......

However, I did get a ticket tossed out that was written for 5 over, then the copy at the frickin state was faxed to me with a scratched-out number and indicating FIFTEEN over. Threw the whole thing out.
If it's just cosmetic, I'd say no way. Sorry bro
CAN'T hurt to try though unless they decide to clown you for asking......

Sorry, but here in Texas, I've had tickets dismissed for them writing the wrong COLOR of my car.
"Your honor, I don't know who the person the officer cited is, but my car is quite clearly blue. Therefore, I cannot be the person cited."
I've also had it done for wrong name, address, license plate number, etc. At least in Texas, almost any minor mistake can get you dismissed on a technicality.
I handled literally hundreds of tickets in this manner in my street racing days as a teen.

That's it, I'm friggin moving. You would be PISSED if you had to face an IL judge. I am seriously flat-out stunned that a tiny clerical error can negate a ticket..... but hell we can use all the help we can get, yknow ?
EDIT: deleted my prior post so I don't confuse or startle anyone that's NOT in IL. If you don't live here, be glad. They can "pace" you while standing at Burger King and you're 300 yards away...... and it will stick!

Sure Bud.......
Around here, a simple letter mistake or color of vehicle mistake will not get you out. I guess it ultimately depends on the judge or magistrate, but if they can prove who it was (Birth date, license #) or what vehicle it was(tag#), technical mistakes mean nothing. And remember, if you say if wasn't you......99% of the time its on video.....

i suppose part of it is that traffic court in houston is SOOOOO overwhelmed that if you show up to fight, they just say "fine" and move on.

I just can't figure out how you get them to make a mistake every time they write a ticket 100 to 200 times. You'd think after get 30 or 40 tickets get thrown out, the Cop's would take the time to spell stuff correctly.
