Bike To Learn Wheelies On

I know this has been discussed before because I know somewhere on CF I've heard a few of you stunters have suggested learning to do stunts on a dirt bike.

I have a friend who wants to learn to stunt. He wants to get a learn on a dirt bike first, but has no clue as to what size to get, especially for his size. I'd offer to sell him my little TTR, but it's waaaaaaay too small for him. He's about 6'2" and weighs about 250+.

Since he's never really ridden dirt, I'm hesitant to suggest a 2-stroke. I don't know off hand of any 4-stroke 125 would fit him well (but that's not saying much LoL). I'm thinking maybe a 250 4-stroke.

He's a fairly new rider, only been riding about a couple of years and recently (as in the last few months) moved up to a gixxer 600. I can't remember what his last bike was. :confused

What do you guys suggest?

250 is probably too big. maybe a klx 110 or an xr100 or something like that.

But aren't those bikes too small for his height? Will they hold his weight? He's a big guy.

yeah, a 50 will hold his weight. they make big bar handlebar kits for them that free up a lot of room

i'd recommend a 250 4 stroke, i have a yz 250f, and thats the wheeliest poppin thing you ever seen

I have a crf150 4-stroke in my garage I play with sometimes...I am 6' 195 lbs and it holds me up...

It will wheelie, but you have to rev the hell outta it.

XR100 is good, it will hold a good 300 lbs. i learned on one. somewhat better than a 50 because it has a clutch
Dangerous little machine though. it will FUCK YOU UP if you dont treat it with the same respect as a 600.
not a bad tool for learning, and you can get em all day long for a grand
if your really learning disabled, start with a 3 wheeler 4 wheeler

everybike can be wheelied, some are easier that is all, not all dirt bikes are the same, a TTR is more for trails and has a smaller power output, not a bad bike to learn on, bounce the front and gas it, it should come up,

best bike to learn wheelies?? something cheap, or someone elses:laughing

The TTR is a wheelie machine. That's all Wade does on it. :shake :laughing

I have more, but I won't bore you with them. :laughing

I was mainly concerned with a bike holding my friends weight, as he's stout. The last time I talked to him, he's had to put buying another bike off to a later date. He's still undecided, although I've talked him out of getting a bigger bike.

The only bike I've ever really wheelied was a DR650, it was the easiest thing to do in the world on that bike.

The yz250 would destroy me before I could learn to stunt it. I'm going to learn by beating up a baby ninja.

I'm tired of watching the boys have all the fun. But I don't want to kill myself either, and a two stroke 250 is not a learning bike. It'll teach you stuff, but it's painful to learn that way.

Excessa, I have a TTR 125 (4-stroke) it's fairly easy to wheelie and learn to wheelie on. I haven't been trying much (or lately) but Wade can clutch wheelie it up easy in 1st and 2nd gear, and a couple of times he's managed to get it up in third.

He can also ride the wheelie for a while.

A TTR would be cheaper than the baby ninja and easier and cheaper to replace parts. :thumb

XR100, TTR125? :whatever You guys are full of it. An XR 250 is barely enough for someone his size. Unless the XR 250 has made some major power improvements, I'd look for something over 400cc in the 4-stroke dirt bike dept.

A guy I know wanted to get a dirt bike to play around on. He rides a '01F4i now. He didn't bother to do much research on a bike and probably got one of THE WORST dirt bikes to start on, simply because someone told him, "oh, you ride a crotch rocket...this bike will be no problem for you." You wanna know what he got? He got a '96 RM250 and can barely ride the damn thing, from what he says. Oh, he wheelies and endos his F4i, but the power difference between the two bikes is completely throwing him off. Not a good choice for a first dirt bike. I'm kind of hoping he'll take his time and try to learn it without doing something completely stupid on it, especially since he's bought it. Or...find one better suited to his riding skills/level and sell the RM. I guess what I'm trying to say is he made a mistake because of what someone told him who thought they knew something (without asking others who were knowledgable) and I hope he can maturely deal with the situation he's gotten himself into.

I have a 125 2-stroke and can only imagine what it would be like to ride a 250 without any dirt bike experience. :eek :eek :eek
