How to remove 'stuck on' tank emblems/reflectors

This mod is for removing side reflectors or tank emblems that are stuck on with double sided tape. This is NOT for stickers that are on the tank under the clear coat. To my knowledge, there is no way to remove those without repainting the tank. Anyway.....

Most people have this stuff lying around the house.

List:

- 1 pack of dental floss
- 1 or 2 soft cloths / old t shirts
- some paper towels
- bottle of Goo Gone (or if your really cheap WD40 or peanut butter)
- patience :D
- polish or wax of your choice to finish

Now, take the dental floss and pull out a couple feet. Wind it in your hand so you have it bundled 3 or 4 times (this keeps it from breaking as often). Now, slide the floss behind the emblem/reflector and give it an up/down sawing motion. You'll probably go throught a few runs on floss, but not that many.

Now that the emblem is off, time to get the left over tape off. Take the goo gone, peanut butter or wd-40 and give the tape a good coating. Let it set for a min then go at it with the t shirts/cloths. This is where the patience part comes in. It took me and my wife about 45 minutes to get 2 emblems off of a tank.

After your done, wet another shirt/cloth and rinse the area off. Now, finish off with some polish or wax to make it look good.

This simple, relatively free mod can make a stock bike look like a custom! Here's an example of a VTX.... (thanks to twowheeldterror for the pics)

Even better.and much easier:nanana
Use Blow dryer on hottest setting or a heat gun...Move it over the emblem a little at a time...Use weed-whacker cord or fishing line and slowly heat a portion of emblem at a time and just pull cord or line through...Once emblem is off, soak glued area with lighter fluid and just use a clean rag in a swirling motion and it will ease off! Good part is, with lighter fluid, you wont need any wax afterward, just lemon pledge or any spray cleaner.... worked like a charm for me on my last 2 bikes:redflip :clap :clap :clap :clap

personaly I don`t like the plain look having no emblems or decals reminds me of bikes that have been wrecked/repainted and I just don`t like the look
But if ever I bought a harley I`d probaly wanna remove all traces of harley so I could at least not have to remind myself and others how low I`ve sunk, might as well buy a snowmobile ugh!!

On my F4i...I used a pair of hemostats...I got a corner started, clipped the "stats" on and rolled the label up...as the sticky came around, it would help prevent the "stuck" part from breaking and would roll around the stats...
