I have a friend of mine who recently found out she has some kind of arthritis in her back. She's only 20. She's going to the doc about it still, but in the mean time her back aches sometimes. Do any of you guys have any suggestions or tips for her pain until she gets some sort of treatment?

Aleve helps a lot with arthritis.

Stretching and soaking in a warm tub might help. Is it rheumatoid (sp) arthritis? There are some meds that will help a lot.

MSM - Methylsulfonylmethane

It has a natural anti-inflammatory and many other good benefits. I take it for my back.
It's a natural product that you can order online. Tell your friend, good luck. Back pain
is the worst :(

I've been taking it for 3 years and I love it.

I have the same thing. There are a few stretches that help with the pain. Also it seems like when I exercise it the pain is not so intense. Just sitting around not working it makes it worse..

Tell her to go to her local drug store and pick up some Capsasin (I think that's about how it's spelled). It's derived from cayenne peppers and works wonders on things like that. It's a topical ointment that she'd find around the same place as BenGay.

If shes only 20 I would say its rheumatoid arthritis so she should just start with an NSAID like motrin or naprosyn or even a cox-2 inhibitor like celebrex for the short term:D

Well I had arthritis in my knee since I was 8 yrs old. Juvinile rheumatory (sp?) to be exact. Aleve, Advil and many other pain killers for arthritis DONT WORK for me. Only thing I found that actually stops the pain is straight asprin. It might take soem time for her to find something that actually works for her. But one thing, she might as well get used to having some pain. Dont rely on pain killers every time. I just deal with it and save asprin for when its real bad.

Boy, sounds like me. I have degenerative discs of my spine. After 2 years everything is finally settling down and getting used to their being no cushion between the bones. I have found that mine is so severe I can't take anything off the shelf like Aleve or aspirin. I end up taking 2x a day diclofenac (a muscle relaxer). I'm like Blondie, the more I exercise the better it feels. It sucks having a sit down at home job and I can feel my back getting worse and worse by the month. I had toe surgery 2 months ago and wasn't able to walk correctly for about a month and it really has made my back worse.
Anyhow, good luck to her. Exercise and the right pain meds to wonders.

If she can get in to her family doc she could ask him to perscriber her a dex-pack of steroids that will help her tremendously until she can get to a specialist and figure out what arthritis she has and what treatments are avail.
