For those of you that weren't at SBN , I'm a middle school teacher - of sorts
Anyway , as the youngest/*cool* teacher on the staff , I end up dealing with the kids on a different level than most : eg , whenever theres a problem/concern _I_ get to hear about it . I dunno if its just the full moon or what but the kids are really pushing it and my head's going to explode .
Huge problem of the day : I'll be the first to admit that I have a group of 7th graders that are all teachers pets , they're all great kids for the most part but raging estrogen levels are creating much friction . The girl who's pretty much the leader of the little group is now being called * slut/bitch/whore* by the rest , has been in tears constantly and since the guidance guy is gone for the week , I have to deal with the back and forth by myself . My wondeful collegues say * you get along with them all better than we do , so we can't help * : thanks ladies
I've been hearing both sides of this CONSTANTLY and I'm REALLY trying to just get through it knowing they'll all forget about it by next week but arrrrghhh !!! It would be really cool is I could get through 15 min without this being brought up ... I'm up front with them about most everything and have told em all numerous times in the past that life is life and you ARE going to fight with your friends , but the whore/slut thing just ain't cool .
The only slightly amusing side to this is : said girl is retelling me the story I already know about her going out with this guy for a week ( *Going out* means 2 telephone calls these days -lol ) , she dumps him and informs me she *hooks up* with a guy from another school . I of course hear * hook up* and immediately think of things like Custer at Little Big Horn and a Stephen King novel and make the
face in sheer shock before my mind reintrprets *hooking up* in 13 yo terms :laughing I need a break !
