Well after a whole 3 uses, the Chatterbox (FRSX2) has bit the dust. I thought maybe the battery was gone, so I replaced it and nothing. It will not charge, will not come on or anything. Called Chatterbox and they want AT LEAST $100 to repair it. Anyone out there good with radios? If not, I guess it will go on Ebay for parts.

Can't do that, it wouldn't be right. I will just put it on Ebay and sell it for the parts. The batteries alone are worth $40.

Before you do hoss, call their corporate offices. I have a X1, and I love it. However, the mounting brackets that come stock with the unit always was a tad on the sucky side, and at finally at speeds of 150, the braket broke. If I had not 'felt' it, I would not have had enough time to grab the unit, as it fell off the helmet.

I called, and fussed....and after 3 calls, and 2 managers later, they offered to send me a new braket for free. Upon my fussing that I did not want the same cheap flimsy one, they sent me a heavier duty one...and it has worked wonderfully.

Their customer service was superb, and I came away happy. Try their corporate, before parting the puppy out. They definately come in handy, on larger group rides.

If you do end up wanting to get rid of it, contact Zrexrob first, as I think he is in need of 2 units.

I would try calling too. Those things are extremly high for them not to have a decent warranty. If you come up with nothing on that end, try a CB shop. Thats all they are and the shops are usually cheap. I paid like $15 to have my cobra weatherband tweaked. Id be willing to bet you just have a bad connection or solder thats come loose somewhere inside.

what about the warranty?

get the receipt, call them, and be firm.
The thing is 2 years old, so I doubt they would honor any warranty. They seemed kind of snotty when I called to ask about repairing it. I think I will just let it go on Ebay. In two years time I used it three times and even those times it was more of an aggravation than anything. If anyone here would like to have it for the spare headset and two batteries, let me know. It ought to be worth $50, the batteries alone cost $40 and an additional headset is like $30. Let me know, otherwise Ebay it is.

If you are interested, I can bring it with me in the morning. Otherwise we can talk about it and then I can get it to you later. I will check the boards before leaving in the morning.
