Spawned from another thread.

Ive killed more than one, including my families own pets. I dont believe animals should suffer, and I can do it with a clear concience..

so, could you shoot your own cat/dog if it was laying there, sreaming, with a broken back, etc etc?

I couldnt do it myself, but I suppose someone else could for me. I'd prolly just end up driving him to the vet though... I'd be too upset to go ahead and end his life. :(

I have had to end a family pets life...however I took him to the vet and just had him put to sleep. I would not have been able to do it myself.

I had to kill a baby chicken because it was born deformed....... :(

I lived on a small animal farm and my mom would take in baby chickens and raise them, and then use their eggs to eat. Well one had deformed feet and we did everything possable but the feet still grew in weird and he could not walk. So I had to break its neck....

I ran over a apposum (SP?) in my truck. I turned around and it was not doing very well. It was not going to live.... So I ran it over again to make sure it would not suffer anymore. Then moved to off the road of course. Call it inhumane but I had to do something.

see, personally, i'd rather look my pet in the eyes and do it myself. I'd hope that way he'd understand. Noone kills my pets but me. Thats not meant to be a sick statement, just that i figure I owe it to them.

So, do you shoot 'em Apoc?

In the head?
Do they die instantaneously?

Morbid, I know. But I want to know if I ever have to do it.

ALTHOUGH -- I've been known to kill some ants.. they were overdosing on sugar. I had to do something! :shake
Girl... way to be strong... :clap

:D

I could and would, if it were required. I would rather take them to a Vet to determine death is the best path though...

I used to work at a veterinary clinic. I've put down a lot of other people's pets, but I don't think I'd have the heart to put down my own.

Heck, I just about passed out doing surgery on my own cat! :laughing

Always in the head. Usually a 12guage slug. The only moving they do is from the force of the impact.

I have done a cow with a 30/30, which is IMO a lot easier than a dog.

BTW, if you have to do a dog, my grandpa would do it like this: Put down a bowl of beer and a plate of steak. Let the dog bet about half way through and shoot him in the brain stem from behind. He'll die happy.

I've never had to do a family pet thank God. If I came across a fatally wounded dog or cat or something on the road or whatever I'm sure I could put them out of their misery.

I grew up on a farm. Every year the cats in the barn would produce about 40 more cats in the barn. More than 80% of them would die in the first two weeks of their life from disease. I have killed lots of animals so they did not have to lie in their own misery and die slowly...

but I have never had to kill anything that I considered a "pet"

i don't think i could do it myself... i'd have to take them to the vet.

Plus, if my wife found out that i shot one of our pets in the head to euthanize it, she'd never talk to me again... that seems like an unnecessarily messy way to do it :shake

See, im different i guess...

Bringing it to a vet costs too much $$$$, plus its a half hour drive. Like i said above, noone kills my animals but me. Its no different than killing a deer execution style when he hasnt died from the first shot.

I'd rather someone shot me than brought me to a hospital to suffer :shrug

But, thats why this is a personal opinion question ;)

I don't think I've ever killed anything except for bugs and stuff :shrug oh but we used to throw turtle eggs across the river when I was young, does that count? :laughing

I could never kill my pets No way in hell. Even when I'll have to eventually put Bailey down, I'll be a mess for a week, I know it <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZCxdm071' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_9_16.gif' border=0></a>

Yup, I've done it, and will continue to do it.

It's NEVER easy though. :(
