Does the Pill work?? (Birth Control)

1351 Views 32 Replies 25 Participants Last post by  Aquarello
My g/f and I are debating having sex. Ok, she's the only one debating it. The only debating I'm doing is master;) ANYWAY....she's on the pill for "other" reasons:confused She and I are worried about the effectiveness of the pill, she's on Otho Trycyclian. I'm against condoms because they suck and she doesn't like them much either. What's the jury here have to tell me? Will we be ok on the pill? Need we do anything else? Should we only have sex at a certain times each month in conjunction with the pill? Help a pimp out here. Please.

Side note: Bust my balls, make all the jokes you want:redflip That's half the fun!

The pill will only work if she is responsible enough to take it at the same time every night/day, CONSISTENTLY!! So many girls are like "I just dont understand how I'm pregnant, I take the pill" What they fail to mention is that they take it, sometimes, or at different times every day.

Make sure she is SURE to take it the same time everyday, I cannot stress that enough. So I take it that since youre 'against condoms', shes a girl you've been with a while??

There is no certain time you have to have sex... it should work great if taken correctly. I've been on it for YEARS and YEARS.. (god I'm old) and I've had ZERO problems (0 pregnancies)

Good luck, but just be warned that the ball is in her court on this one.. which is why trust is so important between two people before you have sex..

Hope this helps. ;)

Just act like Ron Jeremy and pull out before you shoot your man juice. As long as she takes her pill like Jewelz said, you should be fine. :thumb
She and I have been dating for a while now but I've known her for a damn long time. If she wasn't my g/f she would be my best friend:D . I trust her a lot, but she got me all worried about it when she started to talk about how she knew some girls that knocked up on while on the pill. I worry too much, but I don't need little Evans running around.:eek :shake

First off, never ever ever say man juice again:redflip
Secondly, I don't think I'm going to pull and shoot as someone may lose and eye:eek plus, clean up ruins the mood.
Thanks tho!:crackup
ttt Whore
the last girl I dated was religious with the pill... she took it at the EXACT time time every day without fail and we never had any problems.
Yeah there are windows.. true.. but with alot of people, you give them a window, and they'll take a sliding glass door -- if ya know what I mean.. ;) So its just safer and a better precautionary method to make it a point to take it the SAME time every day/night.. Atleast thats my opinion.. sounds logical enough...
Also use extra precaution if she's taking any kind of anti-biotics. They tend to reduce the effectiveness. Even though you're not the one on the pill you still need to be aware of any medication she's on.
Screw the pill. Head on over to Radio Shack, get a screwdriver and some speaeker wire and make a nice tourniquet. :redflip
Do you happen to know what the "other reasons" are that she's taking the pill?

I used to take the pill but would not take it at the same time everyday or I'd forget to take it sometimes. I switched to the Depo-Provera shots. I get them every 13 weeks. There is a one week grace period before or after a shot. Say you are due for a shot on December 13th. Well, you can go in 1 week before or 1 week after the 13th and it will make no difference. I've noticed that if I wait till the very end of the scheduled visit I do get period like symptoms, so I make sure to go in on the exact date to avoid that crap :laughing

Some women get continual periods, some get none, like me, and some get spotting every once in a while.

Since I don't know the other reasons, it's hard to say it'd be good to switch. Also check out the patch... its a 4 week thing and it's fairly invisible on the skin, and doesn't come off when wet :redflip

A lot of women take the pill to control their menstrual cycles. I dated a girl who had very erratic and painful periods until she got on the pill.
I've been taking it for 5 years and so far so good. Works for me :D It takes a responsibile person to keep up with it.
I've known a few people that were damn near religuous with taking the pill that still got pregnant. They were that 1.5% of the people who still got pregnant. Never heard of any with the shot though. I'd still wear a rubber though. I'm not willing to trust anyone that much as it is your life and livelihood that is at stake. I know people that have kids running around from women they had hooked up with before getting married with their current wives. They're both paying money out every month that could be going to their current kids or towards retirement. I'd rather not take any chances and be able to retire early and live more comfortably. I've had a bunch of friends who were with seemingly normal girls or wives who wigged out and felt that getting pregnant would help their relationships or fulfill their own wants. It's a huge trust issue to allow someone to have that much control over your future. I'd use the rhythmm method in conjunction if it works in conjunction with the pill if you don't want to use a rubber.

I dated a girl who herself was eratic... does that count? :)

Oh, she took the pill and didn't have any problems with that... she was just nuts. :D

Ortho Tricyclen is the pretty standard deal. You'll be fine as long as she take sit religiously, and you remember to pull out. :redflip
You know, if she's your best friend, your girlfriend, and all that, why not just give her a ring? I'd want to be in a pretty committed relationship before I started taking risks like that...

But back to your original question. As long as she's pretty good about taking it at about the same time every day, you should have little to worry about. My wife used Ortho-tricyclin for many years before we decided to stop and have kids.

It's a 28-day cycle, with 3 or 4 days off (a placebo pill) so she can have her period. If you want to hit it during that time, that's entirely up you. :eek

Overall, they're pretty effective, but they're not 100% solutions. So think about carefully with the big brain instead of just the two little ones before you start hittin' it. Getting your girl pregnant is pretty much a one-way ticket to a very mediocre life.

If you have no such qualms, then, enjoy. :p

Well you've heard all the pill facts

not 100% effective
must be consistent
no antibiotics (some otc herbs can affect it as well)

I have been on the pill since I was 16 and ortho tri cyclin since I was 27 or 28 nor problems but I was careful

The thing is you should still be wearing a condom your 18 and there is something worse than pregnancy...herpes ....hiv....syphillis....This will not be your one and only partner for the rest of your life even if your parents have arranged your marriage ....be safe care enough about your health;)
