Escorting the NYPD

Anyone happen to see clips of the ticker tape parade thrown in lower Manhattan Monday?

My route to work Monday morning had me in the right place at the right time; I turned immediately in front of a pack of NYPD mcycle cops en route to and who were part of the parade. I didn't even know the parade was on and I continued up to Broadway (main parade route), leading the pack of cops riding side x side. Turned south onto a Police barricade-lined B'wy, they turned also, and it was like I was their escort or something :laughing I guess I was so close to them - in front of them - nobody questioned whether I was supposed to be there!

My lid is pearl white, and clad in my black leather jacket and JR 3.0's I must've looked somewhat official I guess :confused I made the next right to where I park and was glad to be out of the situation!

That is pretty bad ASS!

Check this one out too!!! A couple of months back me and a group of 17 other bikes decided to take a ride into NYC. This was the same day as the PR Day Parade. Unknown to us at the time that during high profile events groups of bikes 5 or greater are considered a gang. So not even 5 minutes in the city and all 18 of us are surrounded by a fleet of motorcycle cops. Luckily alot of the guys I was riding with that day were police officers. After the NYPD motorcycle unit realized that we were not a gang or terrorists they gave us a police escort to our destination!!!! They were even blocking intersections off for us and all, now that was an experience.

There are a lot of bikes in the city for the parade, and a lot of squids, so the cops usually are prety agressive in going after bikes on that day.

especially during big event like the pr day parade, a few riders we know went last year and we warned them to make sure you have all your paperwork, of course they all got stopped and a few of them didnt so their rides got impounded...

I know a few guys that go every year and they get hasseled when they bring their bikes, but they also see a shitload of bikes get impounded too, and that is not a fun thing:mad

Yeah they deffinately checked EVERYONE's papper work before they gave us an escort. I can't imagine how horrible it would be to have nypd impound your bike. They prolly wouldn't even be able to find it for you when you come to pick it up with your papper work.
It is not fun, we got ours ( not mine it was in the shop) impounded last month and we got reamed on the towing bill, all 3 bikes are significantly damaged, and 2 are still in impound under the vehicle seizure law, mostly for DWI's. My friends will be suing the city and the towing company for damages, and we already have a prety strong case being put together.

Yep sounds just as I thought it would be!

How much did they hit ya for towing and storage?
Ok get this. We were popped on Saturday morning, and went to get the one bike back Monday morning ( the other 2 are up for forfeiture so they are still in the impound yard) We had to pay the towing costs for all 3 bikes just to get the one back. They asked for 1800 dollars ( thats not a typo) we were able to talk them down to 1K which is still bs. They charged 300 each just to hook up the bikes, plus storage and milage(10 miles tops) I think they did it because they know they will have to pay for the damages to the bikes. The YZF has a dent in the frame the size of a golf ball so the bike may be totaled.

The other thing was the cops were surprised that we all had our paper work and were licensed riders. I feel so bad for my friends but am still happy that my bike was in the shop.:(

Thanx, they will need it. Last we were told was with this forfiture thing you have to pay 1/3 of book value to get it back and thats if the DA doesnt fight it, which in this case they prolly wont. The other thing is sportbikes are destroyed they arent put up forauction because the city is liable if someone wrecks on it.:shake

Did you or your friend post on the R1-Forum? If so, I read that, and I remember being all pissed off about it. There is a pretty good discussion going on about that over at www.R1-Forum.com. I would post the link, but the R1-Forum is "experiencing technical difficulties", and I can't get in.:mad
I hope everything works out for you guys, because that really sucks. The "balls" that some of these cops have to pull such a stunt like this.
Have you guys gotten a lawyer yet? Did you already go to court? Come on, one of the guys turned around to see what was going on, and the cops still nabbed him. If they used any common sense, they would know that a guy who was "speeding" would not risk going to jail by turning around and RETURNING to the scene:confused Some cops are just assholes, plain and simple

That sounds like it. I think he did post at the R1 forum, and the other guy posts at gixxer.com. We all have lawyers, and our first court date was last Monday, they offered a deal of dropping the speeder (105 in a 50 on a visual estimation:confused ) and the wreckless endangerment, so we plead to wrecless driving, a misdemeanor with 5 points and a 200 dollar fine. Our lawyers said screw that we will go to conference next month. We have a prety solid case going so hopefully we will get this all dismissed.

let me know when the R1 forum is up and I will tell you if that was us that was posted.
