OK. I have a spare PC. I have decided to turn it into a TIVO thing.
I have an ATi Radian 9250 vid card.
I bought an ATi TV Wonder Pro.

Got it all hooked up, and I can easily watch TV on my computer.
I can output my monitor to my TV.
But I can't watch TV on my TV through my computer!
I can see the box the TV is supposed be in, but it's blank on the TV while it's working on the monitor.

Any ideas?

OK, windows XP Pro.

And the software that came with the ATi TV Wonder Pro and the ATi card. Hydravision and the ATi Catalyst I suppose.

Never knew the OS made a difference, but ok.

Put the monitors on duel clone. So everything will be same on both.
Also make the main TV monitor the primary diplay or you will get page tearing.
And check for a video overaly setting. That means when a video is played it will only show fullscreen video on that one monitor while a video is playing. Then it will switch back to the desk top when nothing is playing.

If there is a horiontal or verticle span, you can drag the tv software over the that area and it should play.

I have the same setup pretty much and can watch tv on both, either, or only one.
Nvidia video though that has settings for duel monitor or only displaying video on the second monitor.

OH. Take the ATI tv wonder pro back. It does no hardware MPEG decompression. Your cpu will do all the work. Which isnt a bad thing but mpeg2 decoders onboard are much better.
This is probably the best known hauppauge. "hop-hog". www.hauppauge.com
I have 3 setup in a server and can watch from 2 tvs or 2 other pc's, all being streamed over ethernet. But if you plan on streaming over the internet, you will need a software mpeg card, which is the only reason I kept my Tv wonder pro.

Think about aftermarket Tv PVR software too.
BeyondTV (I use). Pretty good. Not free www.snapstream.com
SageTV bout the same. not free
Theres an open source one out there but I cant htink of the name. Gb-pvr I believe. Tried, not bad for a free program.

WOW. That Might not have helped but I like setting this shit up so I thought some info might help in other areas.

EDIT: The blank on one while playing on the other. Does that for me but its intentional. My TV is the primary display and video overlay is on. Thus when video is being palyed, it shows on tv and I can still work on desktop of other monitor.

Media center is good as well, but you cant buy it in a store. Can only be had with a new pc. Thats so they can be sure the hardware is up to handling the task.

And anything to not give Gates more money is the way Im going.:crackup

you can buy an oem version of the software anywhere if you buy a stick of ram or any piece of hardware.

Really. That I did not know.
But I still stand by the statement of not giving Gates anymore money. :D

I do, I built my own pc. So.... It's available if you look around. Most hacked versions will only work on new instals though.

I will say I have a 2005 Media center pc and the Media center software
kicks ass and works like a Tivo on steroids. there is slight 'menu delay'
but I can live with it.

in order to circumvent any DRM the MCE slaps on

you do have to have some decryption software...
you do need dvr tools

all which are freely available on the net.

start at www.thegreenbutton.com for media center tips and tweaks

Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is only available pre-installed on computers sold by PC manufacturers. You can purchase a PC with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 pre-installed at retail consumer electronic stores, direct from PC manufacturers, or through online consumer electronics Web sites.
