New year resolutions

I was wondering if anybody made any meaningful ones. I made a couple of work related and personal ones that I won't bore you with, and I made a couple of riding related ones that I will bore you with. There's another one that I think it would be a good idea if we all made together too. If you don't like my idea, that's ok, I'm a big boy. I've been thinking about it for a while and I actually put it into practice a couple of times this past year. Ok, here goes...

Resolution we should make together (421 Riders)

I think we should all make an effort to tactfully say something to anybody we see doing something stupid on 421. By stupid I mean anything that could endanger another rider, lead to a serious crash of some kind (like somebody riding way over their head), or attract law enforcement to the valley. I really don't want to see anybody get killed up there.

There will almost certainly be more riders this year. If we can get the word out that the regular guys aren't going to put up with any B.S. from newbies (like stunting, using the other lane to straighten out the turns, speeding in the valley, endangering one of us, etc.) maybe a little of it will stop. I'm not saying hit somebody over the head with an empty Dr. Enuff bottle or threaten an ass kicking; just a carefully worded reminder that if they want to fit in and be welcome, they need to play by the unwritten (maybe they should be written) rules. The couple of times I said something to somebody last year it was well received and one guy even said thanks, if you can believe that.

If tact doesn't work then it's ok to go for the Dr. Enuff bottle.:D

A couple of personal riding related resolutions

Do at least four trackdays/weekends (I don't see how I can afford anymore than that since there are two of us)

Do a better job of riding (on the street) within what I think are my safe limits and save the hard riding for track days. I generally think I do a decent job at this but there was two or three times last year where I caught myself doing something I felt was stupid and dangerous (Like running off of the road, crashing, almost crashing, dangerous passes, etc. Ok, make that four or five times :laughing ). I want to cut that down to zero.

Anybody else have any?

Good luck on any and all of your resolutions John! :thumb
Fat chance of getting many of the (regular) squids in Shady to curtail the antics. :shake Old habits die hard. ;)
But, I can guarantee that if some clown almost or does take me out by being on the wrong side of the yellow lines, a Dr. Enuf bottle would only be a small token of my displeasure. :smash

Then again, I might just give them one of these :down and be on my way. I mean really, what's the use....?:confused

My driving resolution: no more speeding tickets! :shrug

My riding related resolution: be more squidly (why not?......if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right?) :!

Seriously, if I can manage them, I am going to try to do a few more days at the track, so I can try to keep all the young punks in sight this year. :eek:hyeah

My goals/resolutions for this year would include........deciding what kind of bike to buy to whip up on all yall:p then as far as riding, just to try and keep improving and work on my smoothness........overall just try and keep up. As far as trackdays......i really would like to scrape some pennies together and do atleast barber and road atlanta again through STT ofcoarse.......no more nesba!!!!! If all goes as planned and i can pick up a little speed this year i might even try and do a race sometime this fall.....just to see how i do:shrug But mostly to have some fun:D

I think it is a good idea to try and curtail some of the squidly antics going on "in the middle of shady" because that is just going to accomplish the same thing it did this year......end all of our sundays early:( But i will let some of you all speak up first, because most people aint gonna listen to my punk ass ;)
I'm not a part of the 421 group but I think any move to create a safer riding environment is a great idea. I have no clue what you guys have to deal with (although I'd like to make it up that way next year) but if you can get a collective group of guys/gals to let the unsafe riders know that this behavior is unacceptable, who knows some changes might occur.:thumb:thumb
