Metzger Recovering From Crash

The Godfather of Freestyle, Mike Metzger, is apparently back in the United States recovering from one of the most horrific injuries of his career two weeks ago in Europe.

The episode took place in Geneva, Switzerland when Metzger was doing a Freestyle show and crashed hard while attempting a backflip nac-nac. According to eyewitnesses, Metz over-rotated while attempting the trick and when he came to the ground; his rear wheel hit the ground and ripped the bars out of his hands. The bike went up, Metz went down, and when the bike returned to the ground it tumbled and a footpeg hit the freestyler near the groin.

According to a report on Racer X.com, the footpeg tore open his scrotum and ripped open one of his testicles and a major artery. Doctors had to remove the testicle, but Metz is expected to make a full recovery.

Metzger returned to the U.S. just a few days ago and is recuperating at his home in California.

The Godfather of Freestyle, Mike Metzger, is now back in California recuperating from his terrible crash and injury in Geneva, Switzerland, nine days ago. Metzger lost one of his testicles when he failed to land a backflip, and he spent six days in the hospital there. Eric Peronnard, the founder of the U.S. Open and EnduroCross, who accompanied Metzger and Matt Goerke to the event, stayed in Europe with Metzger the whole time.

Goerke, by the way, suffered a dislocated wrist at the Geneva race when he landed awkwardly off a triple jump.

failed to land a backflip? Oh, he landed all right... with a peg in the scrotum. Ouch, that musta hurt. I'm glad I can't sympathize... :eek

I couldn't find the video anywhere online, but apparently knbc news in los angeles showed the crash on air, so its available somewhere...
