did my tax thru turbo tax this year..

One thing jumped out.
They state i have to pay tax on my state tax refund i received.
I received 1500$ back as it is income they state.

wow.. i mean i never ever claimed that or had anyone ask me what my refund was the year prior so i could be taxed on it.??

It's :bs in my opinion, but the idea is this....

If you get to declare state taxes against your federal income, you have to declare any refund you receive.

If you don't get to declare state taxes (or just don't choose to), your refund is not taxable.

I'm butting out now before I start :rant about taxes. I got a $400 refund last year from my state. Got a form in the mail, but it didn't cost me anything on taxes, but I didn't declare taxes on my income tax last year either.

IF you have enough deductions to itemize then you would include the taxes you paid into state and local governments as deductions on your federal return. That makes any state refund you recieve taxable.
