Okay,Kilrbe and myself made it down to the Dragon for the Knoxville Rats Dragon Raid and we had a blast. We had trucked the bikes down due to rain and wind.We arrived Friday morning to find the roads very wet and covered with leaves, but it slowed us down til we learned the roads. We only rode the Dragon and it was great, roads started to dry up just has we started to get faster on Friday.Saturday morning was great, sun and lots fun.
There was 70 to 80 Triumphs that showed up and most were from the sport side of the "family"The CEO of Triumph was there with some other management types. The faster yellow Daytonas had outnumbered the slower silver ones(j/k Surferdude)The CEO was rideing a 2001 silver Daytona.Lots of Speedtriples,STs and RSs has well.
There were lots of mapped out tours of the area but we only rode the dragon(all day, very addicting). All the slower bikes and cars moved over for the faster riders(except one prick on a BMW) and there was only a few mishaps. No Dragon bites for the Triumph crew.
Saturday night there was a "hog roast" dinner with really good food and better conversation with all the riders.Keg of Bass Ale for you beer drinkers.Raffles too.
There was a little "problem" with the BMW rally guys,it seems they stayed at Topica Lodge for the last couple years and dragged thier feet registering there this year and Triumph beat them to it.BMW guys had to stay at Fontana Village(no beer) and were not happy and it showed.Kilrbe had came upon a BMW rider who was hanging off his bike almost scrapeing his knee without leaning the bike much(funny looking I assure you) and wouldn't allow Kilrbe around him.
Check out www.tailofthedragon.com and www.Killboy.com for pics,if you were there and saw a guy takeing pics in "The Horns" look at Killboy's site under other albums and then Set.29.He has pics from the 28 under there has well. Thanks Ron & Nancy and Killboy.
You guys all need to make this trip next year last weekend in Sept.Watch for a write up in Torque Magazine. It was really the best roads and time I have ever had on a bike(rideing 9 years).
I forgot my digital camera and am waiting for pics from throwaway one I bought, but here are a few I found on the web. Here is Kilrbe on the BMW rider.
