I started riding on a Honda Spree. I would log 50 miles a day exploring the country. I had five while going to ISU. Seems like everytime when I was getting on it to go home, someone had knocked it over.
They were all ripped off. I was buying them for about $200 each back then, so it wasn't too upseting. But when my Honda Aero 50 was ripped, I was pissed.
I now have a GoPed Big Foot to play around on. It's sweet and has a disc brake. Major stoppies!
When I was selling them, I came up with a great (I thought at the time) marketing scheme. The "County Alcohol and Drug" center was across the street from the dealership I worked at. I posted flyers in the lobby that said:
"Lost your license, can't get around? We can help. Yamaha Razz's can be operated without an Indiana Drivers License and no insurance. Get your freedom back. Only $1,399.00"
I sold several through that posting, but that wasn't good enough so I took it a step further. Every Sunday, the Terre Haute Tribune would list all of the people that lost their licenses during the week. I put together a form letter with the same above info, and mailed it to all of the people in the paper. It was going well until some jackass threatened to kill me if I contacted him again. "I will still drive you asshole, nothing will stop me, screw your scooters, I will kill you if you call me again".
Making $50.00 a pop just wasn't worth it so I stopped my creative campaign. I did have fun though selling a Razz to a deputy prosecutor that lost his license for drunk driving.
Ah the irony.
