Allison did our taxes, with TurboTax, even though she's an accountant, and I was all happy because we were getting a decent chunk back from Federal, nearly $4k, but have to pay the state of Wisconsin $1300:rant At least we come out on the upper end and don't have to pay :rolleyes

Anyone else get pissed/anxious when it comes to tax season?? We're getting fucked by the state since we lived in Illinois and I worked in Wisconsin, then we moved back into Wisconsin and Allison works in Illinois. The whole thing blows.

The whole idea of taxation is aggravating. :mad

Worst of all is a local chain of tax return places calling themselves "Liberty Tax Service."

Two words that should never appear together. :rant

I getting back about $2k all together. Only things that keeps me from having to pay is my 14 month old son.. Don't matter as I already know what I am getting back is going towards another vehicle for the wife. :(

If I could only get a SS number for my dog and fish.. I would be set :D

When I lived in Memphis, in the news was a lady that was taken to court on tax evasion charges. I think she ended up being found NOT guilty because she somehow showed that taxes were pretty much illegal. It had something to do with taxes being started way back when in order to fund the country during times of war, but at the time of her charges, the country wasn't at war with anyone therefore she said that she didn't have to pay taxes.

Anyone on here a good historian that has any knowledge of this?

I usualy get around 13 or 1400 back, but this year I worked a second job as an independent contractor (which we later found out that I cant:laughing ) and I didnt pay taxes on that job. I made about 10k on that job so I am hoping to break even on that. To top itoff the doc I work for at that place is being audited for 2004:( but thats a long complicated story with a messy divorce. He did tell me that now I can claim some travel expenses and a few other things so I will be happy if I breakeven becasue i have 2k sitting on the side to pay what I may owe so that will be found money for me, and for 06 they will be taking taxes out so it will be easier this year.

I haven't done mine yet, but I'll be lucky if I come out even and don't owe anything. I did freelance this year, so I have to pay out of pocket.

I just hope my write-offs cover the bulk of it.

I actually knew a guy (not a friend of a friend) at Motorola that wrote the IRS an annual letter since the early 90's stating why he should be exempt from paying taxes. He has $0 withheld from his check and sends them nothing come tax time. So far has not been audited or spent any time in jail. Whether or not it'll catch up with him, I don't know. :shrug

That story has been going around for years. There are always variations to the theme, but the meat of it doesn't change.

Truth is, some nutjob fought the system (meaning he didn't pay for a long time saying that it was illegal for the government to require him to pay it) and lost.

Income taxes are theoretically unconstitutional. An equally partitioned direct tax is what is supposedly allowed.

Until Scocial Security was invented there was no real income tax. Haveing a Scocial Security number makes you an entity of the District of Columbia so the constitution can be skirted.

Basically if you don't have a SS number you can get out of paying taxes, however you can't really have a job either so it doesn't matter.

If your self employed and don't have an SS number you can basically set up a corporation with a tax ID number, then you pay yourself out of it, but then your corporation has to buy all cars and houses, anything with a title, You also will have to get Passports, drivers licenses from other countries. Unless you want to build a car from scratch and not title it.

Basically you can probably hire an accountant to help you pay less than one to keep up on how not to pay.

I saw that here in Austin.
They had 2 ppl at the corner dressed up as Uncle Sam, waving at cars, advertising the place.

I've been checking that out too.

Taxes are illegal. But they use tricks to get you to admit you must pay taxes....so they get you anyhow.

There is a way out, but it's a lot of paperwork, you have to avoid doing a lot of things you take for granted (hence how people are tricked into being "taxpayers"), and you can have your IRS master file recoded from "taxpayer" to the correct "non-taxpayer" status.

Of course, all of this take a lot of study on your part, patience, and time to file all the paperwork. Most would just pay taxes and not worry about it...which is how they get away with it.

My take: take what you friggin' need during the year and leave me the hell out of it.

I'm all for taxation with representation, that's great. I'll vote and all that good stuff.

But rather than either not taking enough or taking too much, just take the correct amount out to begin with.

why is that so hard?

When I was a commercial fisherman, no one ever took taxes out of our pay, but they sure did keep a perfect record of what we made. I knew I'd have to pay, so I'd keep $15k or so aside. The noobs that didn't know any better would always be fucked:laughing

Exactly.

The only part that bothers me is, for example, last year I accidentally made a $2000 subtraction from my Adjusted Gross Income rather than a $4000 deduction. Ended up costing me an additional $500 in taxes that year.

Now, had I reversed the mistake, I'm certain they would have caught it and made the proper adjustments. However, my error benefited them so they didn't bother, though I'm certain they knew it.

To me that's stealing $500, plain and simple. That I have an issue with. There's no reason the American Public should be "overpaying" their taxes by hundeds of millions of dollars every year.

Just my theory, but I think they have some sort of an "account". Same concept as banks where they earn interest off of YOUR money that they withhold during the year :shrug

I know for a fact that this is how the casino that I used to work for used the tips that we made. They would pay us based on what the tips averaged two weeks ago. They claimed that it takes them two weeks to calculate the average. BS. They're just earning free money during those two weeks while the money is sitting in a bank account. Same concept, except the govt. is earning it the entire year, but you're talking about billions and billions of payers taxed dollars.

We got a whopping $50.00 back this year. Whoop-dee-fucking-dooo. Paid Uncle Sam a shitload this year.

Meanwhile.....the people in Palm Beach County who are on welfare, have 6 kids, sit on their asses all day and already get everything handed to them for free, get their taxes done for free as well, by an IRS employee, nonetheless. I had to dish out $30 to TurboTax and pay $15 to e-File it.
