NY Dot vertical test...
its a groove weld on a 1" thick steel plate. You bevel the two edges at a 22.5 degree angle, place them 1/4" apart, and weld the groove up.
Its a really hard test to pass, as it is an x-ray test (they'll x-ray the weld, and it should basiacally look like a solid peice of steel, almost indiscernable from the steel you welded together) its REALLY hard to pass. I was gonna wait a month to take it, but my instructor popped into my booth today and said, "I want you to take the DOT test tomorrow, You, the two glenn's, nate and chris T all have a good shot at passing" it was flattering actually, cause he lumped me in with all the really good welders in my group
so yeah, tomorrow, DOT test. I shall own it
anyone have any suggestions? my tungsten pick is prolly being sharpened by my other instructor as we speak :laughing
