Here’s what happened:
I just left work last night after midnight and was driving down the highway in my truck. I notice a car pulled over to the side, never think anything of it till I pass the car and see a bike in front of it. Now my motto has always been to pull over when I see a fellow rider having problems, so that’s exactly what I do.
It turns out that the guy who was riding the bike was experiencing engine problems and his brother was following him at the time so they both pulled over. The bike is an older bike, I believe it was a FZ350, I’m probably wrong but whatever it was, it was a 2-stroke. They try starting again and I said it doesn’t sound like its going to start up, then I offer to have them throw it in the back of my truck and I’ll give them a ride home.
The expression on their faces when they look at each other after the offer was priceless! I could almost read their minds, what the hell is this chick doing?? The one turns to me and says “you seriously don’t mind taking my bike home for me?”, well I offered so obviously I don’t! I have a bike ramp in the back of my truck and it’s not light at all to say the least, it was quite comical watching these guys wrestle with it, they couldn’t have been older then 18.
The bike is in the back of the truck and tied down and we’re off, the rider is with me and his brothers are leading the way. So I strike up a conversation with the rider, here is what I got from him. He’s very new to bikes, didn’t really know that much, his bike is his only way of transportation, only been riding for 3 months, this was his first bike that he paid $1600 for, he has taken the course and was wearing all the proper gear. I was floored, I was in such awe of meeting a newbie that was doing all the right things. Here was a guy who couldn’t have been older then 18 and he had made all the right choices on his first bike.
Well I got his bike and him home safely and it was funny to watch 3 kids fumbling for words on what to say to me. All I said was “Take care and ride safe” and left them standing there.
I left there with a smile on my face for two reasons:
1. I met a newbie that actually had his head on straight
2. I was able to help out a fellow rider
I recommend this to everyone that gets the chance, you never know what you’ll learn and the feeling you have after helping someone out is awesome.
