Winter fun

860 Views 21 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Jim
I've been trying to come up with something to occupy myself with during the winter months. The only thing I've been able to come up with that's midly interesting would be snow boarding. A couple of you guys/gals have mentioned that you're into it or skiing.

What am I looking at towards cost? Brands to look at? Suggestions?

How about this time you don't winterize your bike by November again, first? :redflip
I'm a big fan of Burton boards, bindings and boots. I have two of their board and bindings right now and they are great. I haven't really been into snowboarding in a couple years though, so I'm sure there a bunch of new stuff out there I haven't seen.
skiis you cant go wrong with rossi/k2/solomon big companies. What i would recommend is demo some models before you buy sometimes the companies even have free demos days.
Instead of a demo day where you would get nothing out of it since you don't know how to ride, check out just about any areas learn to ski/snowboard program. Most ski areas have a equipment rental/lift ticket/lesson package for 1st timers.
I used to ski a lot but the past two years winter has sucked! Skiing on ice trails is not fun anymore.

The thing that spoiled me was a week of skiing in Utah, which was unbelievable. No resort in the Northeast can compare!
i think the sky barn on rt 46 offers snowboard rentals for the year for about $100 or so, but dont quote me on the price. When I first started i got a package for $200, without jacket and pants. Thats not that bad if you dont want to spend to much money.
I would be down for a ski trip....

I agree with bbq chef
ski trip yea lets go ROAD TRIP everyone
Snowboard costs would run about a thousand bucks these days... whatever you get - the most important gear is a helmet. Don't skimp on that one.

Anyway, I've got Burton (rates as a freeboard) boards and bindings. Salomon boots are the best IMO. Jacket, pants and gloves, well, whatever you can afford - Just buy the pants with kneepads and tailbone protection built in them and gloves that have built-in wrist protectors. I'm all about safety :)

Dainese makes ski/snowboard gear - but its hard to get in the States. Invest on Burton gear - ya can't go wrong. But do this AFTER your first season (rent first) and make sure you like riding the white stuff.

I'll be first to let ya know for some snow action road trips!
*Bump*

We are going to have to start planning some snowboarding trips pretty soon
.
I'd definitely be up for a Ski/Snowboard trip!
I'm running a Nitro Atlas board w/ Burton Bindings and Solomon boots. I kinda like my setup, but its a little towards the aggressive side. I spent approx $600 on those three item.

I would defiantly recommend renting the first season just so you know what your getting yourself into. =) I personally never been skiing in the west before, but the best skiing on the east coast is up at Jay Peak (www.jaypeakresort.com)

I'm up for whatever ski/snowboard trip.
WOOOOOOHHHHOOOOOOOO!!!!! Camelback is opening this Friday!:biggrin I've already been to Killington once this season and been dying to go boarding since!

The best snow out west is in Utah!!!:D Next time, I gotta get a license plate that says, "The greatest snow on earth"
BTW, If anyone is interested in buying a board I've got one for sale on eBay. Its a Nitro Team series 160cm.
