Oh, also... it has one of those plate holders that hold the plate vertical on the swingarm... is that legal? I can just see the cops busting my balls already regarding that.
NOT legal..and the cops WILL bust balls! :(

If we get some rain this week to get rid of some of the salt I may try to get out, the roads now are the worst I ever saw them, they are more or less white from all the salt and you can see small piles of it in some parts of the road. Of coures next weekend will be crappy though because I am off;)

Is it illegal to put the plate on the frame right infront of the rear wheel? Other than that, I might be covering the blinkers anyway I put the plate on.

Someone told me polished frames make him think it was in an accident, why would that be?

Just an FYI, I just saw this posted in the CL NY list:

FlyKitty is a scam, it was proven on the NJ boards. He sells salvaged/rebuilt bike in poor condition usually for many times what they are worth...Flag him as spam and stop him from ripping off squids!

BEWARE!! Could be legit or could be sour grapes...

Putting it any other place than under the tail, towards the back, VERTICAL, is asking for trouble.

I think thats bs with flykitty... I know a guy who got a bike there and was very happy with them... and I've seen theres bikes on ebay for a long time.

I see alot of custom choppers with the plate vertical, I wonder if they will bother them as much as they bother sportbikes...probably not.

The problem with putting it undertail now is that I think it will be covering the undertail blinkers, the bike is pimped out a bit more than I would bother. I might sell the silver windscreen to help pay for an alarm,... and I'll be selling the swingarm plate mount as well I guess.

Damn, I might have to get a fender kit, and then figure out how to have blinkers that don't get in the way of the high mount exhaust.... I am goign to sell some stuff off this bike to make up for the stuff I have to change around.

Ask the owner if he has any of the stock stuff on it, its better to have everything squared away esp on LI dont want to give the cops a reason to pull you over, and if they do just looking for something dont give them anything to find :thumb

Tommy, the seller isn't technically the owner from the title, because he bought the bike from his friend. Seller doesn't have the stock plate holder, but maybe I should call him and ask him if he can get it from his friend or something. What a pain in the ass.

He claims he didn;t know it was illegal and that everyone has their plates like that upstate.

Call him anyway, whats it going to hurt. Sometimes the cops may not be aware of whats legal with bikes. My take on it is dont give them anything to hassle you about. I am sure they let a lot of the little stuff go, but that one time............

Called seller, got # of seller and talked to him. He might have the stock holder around the apartment, and said he would get in touch with me, seemed to be a very nice guy. Said he babied the bike and it was in storage for atleast a year, he only went on like three road trips with it to philadelphia twice and Myrtle beach... all the same stuff seller wsa telling me. It seems like a good deal.

Anyways, he is going to look for that holder and ship it to me, but it will be hard to put it on.. I might have to sell the undertail kit with blinkers and all to go back to the stock holder. High mount pipe will get in the way of blinkers I think so its a little predicament.

Talked to a female cop in 711 about 15 minutes ago and she said she belives it is illegal, but if it looked cool she woul dnever bother anyone for it. She said in 10 years on the job she doesn't see that much, I dont think shes out to hassle bikes or she would be paying attention becuase it is quite common, especially on those high end choppers.

Yeah but its some of her friends who do hassle bikers you need to worry about. I am sure you can rig something so the plate is where it should be and do something with the signals.

Congrats on the bike!

I was the one that bought a bike from Fly Kitty. They're good people although some of their prices are a bit on the high side. The father and son track with TPM and selling bikes help pay for their track habits. I think he's a carpenter or plumber by trade. They have a really nice set up in a detached garage.

Well Joe, after all the BS that went on, now that you have made a decision and bought the 9R, good luck with it. I hope you have many many miles of dry roads, sunshine, and smiles with her.

Be careful with that plate on the swingarm, specially in Suffolk county. On a regular basis, you probably won't get hassled, but the NYS troopers do that mc checkpoint BS every year and they will ticket ANYTHING that is not 100% legal.

Fly Kitty DOES have high prices, I got a bike with equal mileage and a bunch of after market stuff for 400 bucks less than they wanted, or 600 less than they wanted if the bike included new tires. Pete was very cool on the phone and I'm sure their a straight business but the bikes are a little expensive.

YZFBELIEVER, thanks for the kind words and advice. I know I'm screwed when I pass a highway check stop....but hardly anyones bike is completely legit....you gotta pay to play right.

The nice thing about those check points is that, like 80% of the hardley croud is in some sort of violation, so they are usually so busy with them, that if you have a minor infraction, they will let it go.
