I am changing duty stations to mainland Japan.
I own a new American Motorcycle and I donont want to store it or sell it before I go. I want to bring it with me. I am wondering what to expect in fees, to get it legal over there. What hoops do I have to jump through?
I have heard that you can get a statement from US dealerships stating the brakes meet or exceed Japanese specs. Is this something they inspect? Also Emmesions testing does the japanese gov require one and whats the cost? If I convert mine to california epa standards will it meet or exceed Japanese?

Any hekp would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks

I've been wondering about similar things lately myself. I'm PCSing to Kadena in February. I'm thinking of either leaving the Great Pumpkin here in storage or selling it, but I might decide to bring it. Of course, it'll be a lot easier to convince the wife that I need to buy a new toy there if I leave mine here... :D

It is harder to get them on Okinawa than mainland, but you will pay a lot for the inspection and conversion if it isn't already set up. I had my Busa over there and bringing it back was a breeze, but it had to be inspected and that was a few hundred dollars....
